The client wished to avoid historical reminiscences and mashing up of reality in the design. The brief was to reflect the significance of the location in the graphics. In contrast to the industrial character of the building, we chose natural landscape elements characteristic of the surroundings of Police nad Metují as the basis for the design, i.e. especially the Broumov Walls CKO. Individual well-known rock formations of this rock ridge form the framework of the graphic design, supplemented by stylized trees and animals. The initial idea of the client was the application of realistic photographs. The design we proposed eventually led to a less literal interpretation of natural and landscape elements.
The entire graphic is composed of 214,758 diamonds arranged in a regular grid. These sharp shapes refer to HAUK's logo (which the client did not agree to change) and also to the nature of production - machining and shaping of metals and plastics, parts for the automotive industry. The graphics are underpinned by the texture of monolithic concrete.
The contract was for graphic studio very demanding to process and produce due to the scale and nature of the graphics. The individual plates had to be printed, machined and assembled on site with complete precision, as any error would have been obvious at first glance in the regular grid. Printed graphics on a similar scale have never been applied to a building façade in the Czech Republic before.
